About Our Church

"Let the Church of the Nazarene be true to its commission; not great and elegant buildings; but to feed the hungry and clothe the naked and wipe away the tears of sorrowing, and gather jewels for His diadem.”
— Phineas F. Bresee

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to make Christ-like disciples in the nations.

To create a community of disciples in the River Region that reaches out into our community and the world to change the hearts and lives of those we encounter.

Our  Values

We value authenticity, growth, and transformation. Our community desires to be an authentic group of believers that you can be a part of and not feel the need to hide your struggles. The biggest need in our personal life is to grow closer to God and that takes place in an authentic community. Being a church rooted in the holiness movement, we value a transformed life.  We believe that God does not only seek to know us, but to transform our lives in such a way that we are better people. Through this personal transformation God then uses us to help usher in his Kingdom, therefore transforming our world.

What is a Nazarene?

The Church of the Nazarene is explicitly Christian and identifies with the history of the Christian tradition. While we have our unique identity within the Christian faith, we are only one member of the larger Body of Christ. As Christians we proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, and he has brought God’s Kingdom to Earth.

The Church of the Nazarene’s unique identity is in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, which began with John Wesley’s emphasis on sanctification and living a holy life. We are not “Holy Rollers,” but we do seek to be holy people, set aside for God’s work in the world. At the core of our holiness identity is God’s love. Living a holy life is as simple as allowing God’s love to wholly transform and wholly use you. God is always seeking a people to reveal his steadfast love to the world. We are intentionally trying to be the individuals and community that God is revealing that love through.

We at River Region Church of the Nazarene are a people on a mission. Our primary mission is to go and make Christlike disciples in the nations. We believe the best way to achieve that is to create a Christian community in our area that challenges people to grow in their faith and calls them to share that faith with others. Everything we do is an effort to create a community of disciples that go out and change our community to look more like the Kingdom.

“LOVE takes the Harshness out of Holiness. Love takes the Incredibility out of Perfection. Love takes the Antinomianism out of Faith. Love takes the Moralism out of Obedience. Love takes the Gnosticism out of Cleansing. Love takes the Abstraction out of Truth. Love puts the Personal into Truth. Love puts the Ethical into Holiness. Love puts Process into Life. Love puts Urgency into Crisis. Love puts Seriousness into Sin. Love puts Fellowship into Perfection.”
